Important Notice
03 February 2012 – Update:
The Rideshare parking scheme has been discontinued and tokens can no longer be purchased. The existing Rideshare parks will continue to operate as exclusive rideshare parking for users with current tokens until 1 March 2012 . From 1 March these parks will be made available to all and converted to a mixture of P120s (on Forth St, Clyde St, Harbour Terrace and Cumberland St beside North Ground), and $5/day all-day Pay and Display parking (on Cumberland St between Union St and St David St). We are working with the tertiary institutions and a rideshare website provider to continue facilitating Dunedin car-pooling in the future. More information will be available at www.dunedinrideshare.co.nz from 1 March 2012.
18 October 2011 – Update:
On Tuesday 18 October 2011 the Council's Planning and Environment Committee voted to discontinue the Rideshare Scheme from 1 March 2012. This is the result of an extensive review that has showed the scheme is not succeeding in achieving its two key objectives of reduced parking pressure and more sustainable travel behaviour. Furthermore, the costs associated with fixing the problems with the Scheme are not justified. The scheme will continue to operate until existing tokens expire on 28 February 2012 so there will be no immediate change for current users. Between now and March 2012 a small number of Rideshare spaces may be removed in some areas to make parking available for other uses, and the Transportation Planning Department will carry out a wider review of parking in the tertiary area, in consultation with key stakeholders, to develop options for making parking more convenient in the area in future. 30 June 2011 – Update:
From Monday 18 July (start of Polytech Semester 2) a limited number of Rideshare tokens will be available to students and staff of the University and the Polytechnic (provided you meet all other requirements of the scheme) at the reduced rate of $30 for second semester/summer school period. These tokens will be available from 8:30am Monday 18 July on a first come first served basis. You MUST still register for the scheme on this site before visiting the DCC Customer Services Agency with all relevant documentation to pick up and pay for a token. Please be aware that registering does NOT guarantee you a token. Tokens will not be held aside under ANY circumstances.
20 April 2011 – Update:
Due to a number of changes introduced at the beginning of this year to the Rideshare Scheme, the uptake of tokens has fallen below expectations. Therefore as an interim measure to increase occupancy of parking space, we are offering a limited number of tokens to the staff of the University and the Polytechnic (provided you meet all other requirements of the scheme) for the remainder of 2011.
These tokens will be available from 8:30am Tuesday 26 April on a first come first serve basis. You MUST still register for the scheme on www.dunedinrideshare.co.nz before visiting the DCC Customer Services Agency with all relevant documentation to pick up and pay for a token. Please be aware that registering does NOT guarantee you a token.
Tokens will not be held aside under ANY circumstances.
